Create a logo

The proposals is closed as follows:

• Proposal 1.1: Unsuccessful as the request was withdrawn. Lack of attention and support, and no opinions are made during the proposal.
• Proposal 1.2: While this proposal have no opposes, similar to Proposal 1.2, it lacks attention and only 1 user participated in the discussion, who pointed out that the wiki’s name is too small in the logo. That being said, as the community favour Proposal 1.3 more than this, and arguments are made, to which the proposer haven't replied or resolve it, the proposal is unsuccessful.
• Proposal 1.3: Successful. There is participation from 2 users, with no opposes. There is consensus here that the logo is tidy and simple, and perhaps beautiful. The strongest argument will be that the logo is not that match with the wiki’s scope, which the user think that it is not a really big problem/a bad choice. Although I am the founder of this wiki, I don’t think I am creative enough to create a logo and thus the logo is still the original settings of MediaWiki. Captcha update

Due to the fact that the current Math CAPTCHA’s have low effectiveness in combating spam, I decided to change it to QuestyCaptcha which is stronger to deal with spambots. -Matttestzh (talk) 10:45, 21 June 2022 (UTC)

QuestyCaptcha is now being dynamic, instead of having limited static questions which spammers can crack all the questions easily and load them to a spambot. The new Captcha now also have no cultural challenges. One of the example of the new CAPTCHA implementated:

AbuseFilter extension

New XMPP channel

I am happy to announce that a new XMPP channel is established at fortestwiki@conference.syn.rip. Here is an official guide on how to setup. There are also several advantages on XMPP over IRC:

1. XMPP is decentralized. In XMPP, you can choose your own server provider just like email. IRC, on the other hand, forces everybody to be based on the same IRC network (e.g. libera.chat, freenode).
2. You can still receive messages while offline in XMPP like email, that the XMPP server will save the messages and your client will then download them when you are back online. However, the messages sent through IRC at the time you are offline won’t be seen by you after you are back online, unless you use a bouncer.
3. No leakage of IP address by default. All stuffs that the participants know will only be your nickname, while IRC requires a cloak to stop the leak of your hostname/IP.

I am sorry but this cannot be resolved. The reason why it is not received is that your email provider block emails from our website host (myht.org) and consider it as potential spam. The only advantage with an email currently is to reset your password, which can be done with assistance by the system administrators. Hi AlPaD, which exact MediaWiki 1.37 feature does it contain? I am assuming this is caused because the extensions aren't upgraded to MediaWiki 1.38, but I would like to understand the issue in a more detailed way just in case. Autoconfirmed rights

Matttestzh I sent you a message about this on IRC, but it appears that autoconfirmed is granted upon account creation. This might be related to the upgrade, maybe not, and it can go under it's own section if it's not. Is the autoconfirmed granting upon creation intended? CheckUser-limited

Hi, I am happy to announce that as of 30/7, all admins can check their own IP addresses provided by a modified version of the extension CheckUser. As the right CheckUser-limited is currently added for all admins, admins can test on the function at Special:CheckUser.

I am sorry that I didn't update this thread regarding this previously. Let me make some clarifications here:

This is no longer true starting from 03/09/2022, when I modified the Privacy Policy because of previous vandalism/disruption. The IP logs will be kept for 3 months and stewards has the permission to view it for countervandalism and sockpuppet investigation purposes (the rationale will be given when stewards add checkuser rights ro their accounts), then deleted from our database. If you don't want your IP address to be saved in our database (this would mean vanishing your account too), please file a request to stewards via TestWiki:Contact. -Matttestzh (talk) 09:04, 26 October 2022 (UTC)

Steward remind all bureaucrats here, really, should feel empowered and comfortable in giving opinions/questions to the request. In spite of being a testing permission, the bureaucrat group can also grant admins and bureaucrats to other users, assist stewards, as well as guiding the wiki and maintain its operation, so it is only granted to very trusted users. I will advise you to make tests grounded with the policies after being granted with the sysop permissions, then to request bureaucrat after 2 weeks or so. Email disabled - 2022-09-14

Considering that most of the major email providers block emails sent from our host and categorize that as spam, I have decided to disable the email function (Special:EmailUser and the option to recover your password via email). The wiki email function also have privacy issues as all mails comes through our mail server, in which our server’s host may be able to see all the mails.

If you are afraid of losing your account if your password is forgotten, you can either post a SHA-256 committed identity/public OpenPGP keys on your userpage, or confirm via email. For the latter option, please email me using the email you would like to use to recover your password for the future, to fortestwikimatttest@riseup.net. Then I will provide you with instructions on how to link the email into your wiki account.

Bug with VisualEditor

When I try to edit a page with VisualEditor, I get this message: "Error contacting the Parsoid/RESTBase server: (curl error: 60) Peer certificate cannot be authenticated with given CA certificates". Kristiannumber1 (talk) 13:44, 25 October 2022 (UTC)

The bug is now  fixed by changing the value of wgServer into plain HTTP address. However, this would make all connections to be HTTP by default. Therefore, during log in, please confirm that the connection is secure (HTTPS header) before submitting the form to ensure that your passwords are safe. I would like to request steward rights to remove rights from bureaucrats who vandalize the wiki/misuse their rights, use suppression to hide edits/usernames that reveal someone's personal information, threaten another user etc., use CheckUser if someone seems to be abusing multiple accounts, and rename users if they request it. 2. In the below situations, decide whether you should use the CheckUser tool or not, and explain with some reasons:

   • Requested by a user, who asked you to check and send another user account’s IP address to him for testing purposes;
     • I would decline the request and tell the user that they can check their own account and IP address for testing purposes. Kristiannumber1 (talk) 17:02, 17 December 2022 (UTC)
   • Exact same behaviour is shown between a vandalism-only account and an IP;
     • I would not perform a check, and will just block the vandalism-only account and IP for vandalism, because I think that would be enough to stop the vandalism and there is no need to perform a check, because sockpuppets can't be made from blocked accounts and IP addresses anyway, and if the vandalism-only account or the IP already have sockpuppets, they will be autoblocked, so performing a check would be useless in this case.    • An vandalism-only account is adding nonsense content to a non-test page, and another registered account on this wiki quickly reverted the vandalism after no more than 1 minute. -Matttestzh (talk) 07:37, 17 December 2022 (UTC)

   • As with the previous situation, I wouldn't perform a check, and would block the vandalism-only account, and if the registered account that reverted the vandalism turns out to be operated by the user who vandalized, it will be autoblocked, so performing a check would be useless. Also, it can happen that a user is vandalizing and at the same time someone else saw the vandalism and reverted it, so vandalism being reverted quickly is not really a good evidence to check.    Thank you for answering my questions. I would agree with most of your answers. For Question 2.3, if there are repeated and similar vandalism characteristics reverted by the same user quickly, this may suggest that the user is socking. As auto-block doesn’t work on users who have the ipblockexempt permissions, CheckUser may be used for investigation.

3. Data Privacy is one of the main commitments of this wiki. In what situations would you release the IP address of a user without them permitting you to do so? -Matttestzh (talk) 07:37, 17 December 2022 (UTC)

   • I don't think I will ever need to do that. I will avoid releasing the IP address of a user, and if I'm in doubt, I'll ask other stewards or let other stewards handle the case. Kristiannumber1 (talk) 21:49, 17 December 2022 (UTC)

4. Would you decline rename requests by the same user just because they ask to rename very frequently (I.e. Request for another rename in 3 weeks)? Why or why not? -Matttestzh (talk) 07:37, 17 December 2022 (UTC)

   • I would not decline a rename request if the user made a mistake in their previous request and just wants to correct it, but if the requests are disruptive or in bad faith, for example, the user is making requests to be renamed to unacceptable usernames or makes many requests in a short period of time and does not provide a good reason, I would tell the user to wait some time before making another request, because renaming a user too frequently can cause confusion for other users, or ask for a reason. 5. Stewards serves an important purpose on granting advanced user rights. What factors would you consider before you accept/decline a user’s request for

   • interface administrator?

   • I would first check if they meet the requirements for interface administrator, which are that the user should be an administrator, have a need for the right, and be trusted and usually known in other wikis. I would decline a request if the user is only going to use the rights for testing, because gadgets and sitewide JS/CSS are not for testing, and I would tell the user that they can test in their common.js or common.css page. I would also decline a request if they have recently vandalized this wiki or other wikis, because that would mean that they can't be trusted with the interface administrator rights.    • I think that the user should be a bureaucrat before requesting this right, because it is an advanced non-test right and users with this right can disrupt edit histories and logs, and the user should have some experience in this wiki. I would grant this right only if the user has a clear need for the right and is trusted in the wiki. As with interface administrator, I would not accept a request for suppressor if the user has recently vandalized this wiki or other wikis, because with the suppress tool one can vandalize and make the edit hard to revert or revertable only by other suppressors or stewards by suppressing the versions before the vandalism, because pages can't be reverted to suppressed versions. Also before granting this right, I would ask questions with examples of cases and ask if they would use the suppression tool, RevisionDelete or not hide the data.    I would agree to your answers. For Interface Administrators, it’s pretty much a non-test right for users who would like to help out this wiki on a technical side. Knowledge of JS/CSS should be demonstrated and they should test on their own common.js/common.css, and ask for consent from the community for huge changes on the code. -Matttestzh (talk) 04:53, 18 December 2022 (UTC)

   @Kristiannumber1: Reviewing your contributions, most of your edits are from reverting vandalism. 7. As this is a test wiki where users can test freely, some users may violate the policies unknowingly (e.g. Testing on a non-test page). How would you handle such cases?    • If a user violates the policies, I would first tell them in their talk page about the policies. If they continue to violate the policies after a warning/multiple warnings, then they may be a vandalism-only account. Kristiannumber1 (talk) 17:02, 17 December 2022 (UTC)

   It’s actually tough and tricky to determine whether an account is vandalism-only account who pretends to be a new user or a user who lacks competence. Either way, both of these 2 types of accounts should be blocked after ignoring the warnings. -Matttestzh (talk) 04:53, 18 December 2022 (UTC)

   • I would suppress personal information, like phone numbers, IP addresses, home addresses, etc., and real-world death threats, and would use RevisionDelete for swear words, slurs and offensive material. Kristiannumber1 (talk) 20:26, 17 December 2022 (UTC)
